Our target by 2040 is clear: GEA will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions along the entire value chain to net zero. This includes reducing our own emissions, as well as developing sustainable solutions for our customers and creating climate-neutral supply chains. To achieve our climate targets, we have defined a Climate Transition Plan 2040.

Net Zero 2040
The GEA Climate Transition Plan 2040 sets out short, medium and long-term targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero across the entire value chain by 2040. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has confirmed that our targets for 2030 and the net-zero target for 2040 are aligned with the latest scientific research and will make an effective contribution to achieving the 1.5° Celsisus global warming target.
Scope 1 & 2
We are implementing a clearly defined package of measures for our production sites and vehicle fleet. Our goal is to achieve Net Zero by 2040 by existing fossil fuels, driving forward electrification and harnessing renewable energy.
Scope 3 downstream
Our product portfolio is being transformed, developing significantly better solutions when it comes to resource efficiency and environmental protection, enabling our customers to minimize their ecological footprint.
Customers are supported in assessing their emissions and selecting decarbonization solutions for their production facilities and processes.
We continuously improve the energy efficiency of our technologies and develop new engineering solutions that replace emissions-intensive processes.
The majority of greenhouse gas emissions are generated in customers’ facilities during the use phase of our products. That is why we support our customers in sustainably transforming their production processes – through engineering consulting, application-oriented solutions, and the development of production processes that generate lower emissions.
Scope 3 upstream
Our suppliers are key to ensuring a climate-neutral value chain. We will increasingly source our raw materials, commodities and services worldwide exclusively from verifiable qualified suppliers. We require our strategically most significant partners already today to demonstrate that they operate in an environmentally sustainable manner – because their actions impact our climate footprint. This is why we have established binding requirements with regard to our supply chain.

Raising awareness
We are committed to raising public awareness of climate protection and playing an active role, sharing our experience and expertise and taking others along on our journey.
Empowered to act
Engineering for a better world is GEA’s guiding purpose. For us, a better world means a more sustainable one. Our workforce of more than 18,000 employees strives to achieve this each and every day. We are proud that our technologies and solutions contribute to enhancing daily life – whether at the breakfast table, in hospital or on the farm. Sustainability is embedded in the company’s DNA and paves the way for all that we do.
Climate Transition Plan 2040
The Climate Transition Plan 2040 builds on the 2021 launched climate strategy and outlines clear steps to reach Net Zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2040. It focuses on transforming the product portfolio and operations, adapting the supply chain, strengthening social engagement, and aligning corporate culture with climate goals.
