Top in district and process heating: GEA Grasso L XHP and V XHP with performance bests

11 Oct 2022

GEA Heating & Refrigeration continues to expand its screw compressor portfolio. At Chillventa 2022 in Nuremberg, GEA Heating & Refrigeration introduces the GEA Grasso L XHP high pressure screw compressor and the GEA Grasso V XHP high pressure piston compressor.

Both compressors extend the application range for district and process heating with ammonia to +95 °C. GEA thus offers further solutions for small, medium, and large heating capacities. For suppliers of district heating as well as customers from the beverage and food industries, this means that their plants will become more efficient, sustainable and can be adjusted even more individually to the respective requirements. Very importantly, the target of climate neutrality can only be achieved through the use of heat pumps.

High performance in district heating: the GEA Grasso L XHP high-pressure screw compressor

With the new GEA Grasso L XHP high-pressure screw compressor, the experts at GEA Heating & Refrigeration are entering new dimensions in district heating. With an optimized 70-bar design, the screw compressor extends the application limits of heat pumps using the natural refrigerant ammonia (NH3) by higher heat sink temperatures up to +95 °C. Heating capacity is up to ten megawatts. The L XHP offers a maximum speed of 3,600 rpm and a maximum discharge temperature of + 140 °C.

The L XHP will be available in three sizes - ranging from 1,990 m3/h to 2,748 m3/h at 2,940 revolutions per minute (rpm).

The new rotor profile and robust components thus make the heat pump system even more reliable and efficient than ever before. This makes the L XHP the product of choice for large process and district heating projects, both now and in the future.

High performance in process heat: the GEA Grasso V XHP high-temperature reciprocating compressor

GEA Heating & Refrigeration also presents the GEA Grasso V XHP high-temperature reciprocating compressor. With a wide heating capacity range up to approx. three megawatts it is foremost used in the field of process heating, or for facility heating and smaller heating grids. The ammonia GEA Grasso V XHP series at a design pressure of 63 bar is suitable for heat sink temperatures up to +95 °C. This makes these new models the first choice for all hot water applications up to this temperature that typically meets industrial requirements in the food and other industries, especially for cleaning and processing. The V XHP is offered in four versions (with four, six, eight and ten 10 cylinders) at swept volumes from 376 to 941 m³/h at 1,500 rpm. For all V XHP series models, an external oil pump provides essential pre-lubrication and guaranteed continuous oil flow for maximum reliability under full and part load conditions. Many more unique design items plus well-proven know-how and experience provide a solid and long-lasting solution.

Overall, the GEA Grasso V XHP stands for a future-proof and independent concept that comes with a significant reduction of the total cost of ownership thanks to lower power consumption and maximum reliability. This proven, high-efficiency compressor series is available as a packaged unit and with the complete heat pump series GEA RedGenium.
