Milk Powder Handling, Conveying & Mixing
Many powdered milk products are sensitive to both oxygen and to mechanical handling. GEA powder handling solutions have been developed to ensure that product integrity is maintained throughout the production process, right through to packaging.
Milk powder products are commonly processed and bulk packaged for storage or transport to a different location, before subsequently being unloaded, conveyed, mixed and repackaged into retail containers. This means that the dairy powder will be subjected to multiple mechanical processes before it is finally packaged as a consumer product. GEA offers powder handling and conveying technologies that have been designed to ensure that the impact of mechanical processing on the product is reduced to a minimum.
Agglomerated powders need particularly careful handling and conveying to protect product structure, especially when long transportation distances and multiple handling stages are involved. GEA’s range of positive pressure and vacuum conveying systems are designed to ensure minimal breakdown of these powders. Our conveying solutions are configured with highly accurate flow control systems and integrated software solutions, to guarantee that sensitive powders can be safely conveyed from the dryer fluid bed right through to finished packing.
These powders are often packed into intermediate storage containers, such as 25 kg bags or bulk bags. GEA offers unloading of bags and bulk bags in combination with conveying systems that are designed to handle these intermediate products through to mixing before they are combined into the finished powdered product. Our expertise extends to the design of hygienic and ergonomic (bulk) bag handling solutions, including fully automated systems for delivering raw ingredients to the conveying and batch mixing processes.
