GEA has supplied its largest steam-sterilizable centrifuge to Jiangsu Wecare Biotechnology in Luohe, Henan Province, in central China. In January 2020, GEA completed the installation of the pharma separator of type CSI with a production capacity up to 20,000 liters an hour. It is used for the centrifugal harvesting of bacteria after fermentation at the customer’s new production plant, where probiotic powder is produced for the food, pharmaceutical and agriculture sectors.

Störtebeker Craft Brewery in the city of Stralsund is GEA’s first customer in Germany to use the GEA HOPSTAR® Dry for the dynamic cold extraction of hop oils. Early in 2019, the two companies signed a contract to build, install and commission GEA’s system; the work was successfully completed the following August. Now the beers Störtebeker makes with high pellet loads come out even more homogeneous using fully automated, stabilized processes.

GEA has launched its new nitrogen freezing pilot plant for bacteria, giving food and dairy processors the opportunity to trial this new technology in their own plants before investing in production-scale equipment. By freezing bacteria into pellets before drying, GEA is now able to provide processors with greater flexibility, a higher active cell count and reduced costs through better utilization of their fermentation lines and freeze dryers.

Order intake rose to EUR 1.25 billion in the last quarter, an increase of around 5 percent compared to the same quarter in 2018. Following a series of optimization measures at its Center of Excellence (COE) in Oelde, GEA has already began significantly reducing the general repair times of its separators by up to 40% worldwide. For particularly urgent cases, GEA is now offering a Fast Lane Service, which enables affected separators to be repaired in less than 10 days.

Technology group GEA has outlined its new organizational structure, which will be implemented gradually from October 1, 2019 onwards and become effective January 1, 2020. Going forward, GEA will be organized in five divisions with each up to six sub-divisions.
