What is SETO Gas Pre-Treatment?

With the decarbonization of heavy industries, new requirements for flue gas treatment are emerging that go beyond the current level of gas cleaning. A successful implementation of a Carbon Capture plant requires additional efforts to be invested into flue gas treatment. GEA as engineering partner with decades of experience in flue gas conditioning and treatment is the best partner you can get for revamping existing or for providing new gas pre-treatment equipment in connection with Carbon Capture.

Why SETO Gas Pre-Treatment?

Gas Pre-Treatment of the flue gas ensures that the necessary inlet conditions of carbon capture plants are met, especially regarding the reduction of trace contaminants and gas conditioning. SETO Gas Pre-Treatment combines all necessary process steps of cooling/condensation as well as the individual configuration of a suitable gas cleaning line to meet the specifics of the individual flue gases. Depending on the gas composition, a reduction of NOx, SOx as well as particulate impurities and other components is typically required.

Benefits of SETO Gas Pre-Treatment

The use of SETO Gas Pre-Treatment in combination with GEA Carbon Capture technologies reduces the decomposition of the solvent in the chemical absorption process, resulting in a lower solvent make-up requirement. In addition, the risk of deposits forming in the CO2 capture system is reduced, which has a significant impact on maintenance and costs. To protect the equipment and prevent secondary emissions, advanced gas cleaning to remove particulate emissions is an essential part of the gas pre-treatment system.

All in all, SETO Gas Pre-Treatment enables lower operating costs as well as stable and reliable operation of the Carbon Capture plant.

Technical implementation of SETO Gas Pre-Treatment

The technical implementation of SETO Gas Pre-Treatment systems is based on the presence of individual harmful trace compounds to be removed and on the total gas volume flow to be treated.

The aim of SETO Gas Pre-Treatment is to fulfil the required gas cleaning tasks in a single step if possible. Examples of implementation are, depending on the requirement profile, various apparatuses such as the flue gas condenser (FGC), direct contact cooler (DCC), wet electrostatic precipitator (wetESP) or cartridge filter systems (CFS).
