Effluent Treatment in Water Works

Drinking water is obtained either from ground water or surface water. The use of surface water is on the increase with a growing population and progressive environmental pollution. In the EU countries, 64 percent of drinking water is already obtained from surface water. Centrifugal separation technology from GEA plays a central role in this process.

The volume of sewage sludge that has to be disposed of is significantly reduced thanks to the reliable separation of undesirable constituents. At the same time, more drinking water is available.

Humus, minerals, organic impurities, chemical residues, viruses and bacteria must be removed from the surface water. Various chemical processes are initially applied for purification. Clarifying decanters then take on the job of dewatering the sludge produced during sedimentation. Due to its high bowl speed and high scroll torque in conjunction with a differential speed control which functions in dependence of the solids loading, the clarifying decanters achieve optimum clarification efficiency and maximum possible solids dewatering.

Efficient protection for humans and nature

In this way, the volume of sewage sludge to be disposed of is reduced and as much water as possible is recovered for drinking water supply. The closed design together with the likewise closed installation prevents the emission of aerosols so that humans and nature are protected in equal measure.
