The GEA Thermo Xchange is an innovative heat recovery system designed to revolutionize traditional drying methods, delivering significant energy savings and reducing environmental footprint. Whether you operate a large-scale industrial plant or a specialized production line, Thermo Xchange offers a smarter way forward.
Traditional pasta drying systems rely heavily on hot and dry air, which is generated by consuming large amounts of thermal energy. Unfortunately, up to 70% of this energy is lost as humid air is exhausted into the environment. This inefficiency leads to high operating costs, increased CO₂ emissions, and dependency on external climate conditions.
Producers need a solution that recovers wasted energy, stabilizes production, and aligns with environmental goals. That solution is GEA Thermo Xchange.
Thermo Xchange captures the latent heat contained in the humid air extracted from the dryer. Instead of letting this energy escape, our system uses a high-efficiency heat pump to transform it into usable heat at a higher temperature. This recovered energy is then reintegrated into the thermal circuit, powering the drying process without relying on boilers during normal operation. The result is a stable, controlled environment that is independent of external conditions. Moreover, the system provides dual functionality: hot water for drying and chilled water for cooling, ensuring maximum flexibility and efficiency across your production line.

Thermo Xchange delivers exceptional energy-conversion efficiency, turning wasted heat into valuable thermal power — reducing operational costs, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and providing future-proof technology for pasta production.

Together with Mona Neubaur, Minister of Economic Affairs of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, GEA CEO Stefan Klebert has opened a new technology center for pharmaceutical freeze-drying systems in Elsdorf, Germany. GEA employs approximately 260 people at the facility, which combines research and development with production and service under one roof.
