The removal of dissolved gases - especially oxygen - forms an essential aspect in the brewing and beverage industry. GEA VARIDOX™ systems solve it all.

The requirements in the food and beverage industry have been constantly growing during the past years, which especially applies to the quality and purity of water. Besides physiologically important and desired ingredients, special attention is paid to the contents of undesirable ingredients in the water. In this respect, the removal of dissolved gases - especially oxygen - forms an essential aspect.
Mainly for the brewing industry GEA offers the deaeration system type VARIDOX™.
For cold deaeration with water temperatures of >10°C we recommend the VARIDOX-C™, for hot deaeration the type VARIDOX-H™.
The water is fed in through a distributor at the top of the column. The column is filled with structured packing which achieves an immense enlargement of the available surface. A strip gas (CO2, N2) is introduced at the foot of the column. It absorbs the oxygen from the water in the counterflow. Due to this washing-out method, a part of the strip gas remains in the water. The demand for strip gas depends on the water temperature in the column and the residual oxygen content to be obtained.
Water Deaeration System VARIDOX-H™ for hot deaeration
Oxygen in beer or beverages may spoil the perishability and taste. It is therefore important to use optimum deaerated water for the production of beverages and for the redilution of beer. The innovative GEA water deaeration system VARIDOX-H™ achieves with hot deaeration excellent residual oxygen values which makes it most suitable for this and other applications.
At 72 °C the water is fed to the de-aerating column and slowly trickles down the packed columns. The high temperature strongly reduces the solubility of the oxygen in the water. The bottom-up flowing CO2 (N2) ensures an additional release of oxygen.
When the water is cooled down a heat recovery of approx. 90 % is obtained by means of the regenerating step. In another step the water is cooled down to the desired temperature.
The sensors for flow rate, level, and optionally oxygen monitor the VARIDOX™ system for its proper function.
The water deaeration system VARIDOX™ is cleaned on the product path.

The water is sprayed in the deaerating column and slowly trickles down the packed columns. The bottom-up flowing CO2 (N2) ensures the release of the oxygen. At the outlet of the system the water is saturated with CO2 (N2). An increase of the carbonating degree of the outcoming water to a certain set value is possible with low additional expenditure.
