Packaged compressor systems
Plug & play reciprocating compressor packages for cooling and heating. GEA reciprocating units are widely recognized for their simple, straightforward installation. Their features include efficient oil separators, low-maintenance V-belts or direct-coupling drivelines, and state-of-the-art electronic systems for general control.
The GEA Grasso V series and GEA FES VX series packages are based on the 2nd generation V series compressor, with a focus on maximum efficiency, reliability, and minimal maintenance, ensuring you the lowest operating costs. The single-stage and two-stage reciprocating compressor packages of the GEA Grasso V series and GEA FES VX series are available in several sizes, both in V-belt and direct drive configurations. They cover a wide capacity range suitable for applications from approximately +10°C to +35°C (+50°F to +95°F) for single-stage, and from -35°C to +35°C (-31°F to +95°F) for two-stage systems.
The GEA Grasso V HS package is based on the high-speed reciprocating compressor. This package offers a higher refrigeration capacity with a lower investment. Because of the proportional correlation of compressor speed, swept volume and resulting capacity, up to 25 % more capacity can now be gained using the same models.
The GEA Grasso V XHP compressors, which use ammonia, are designed for combining the highest efficiency to reduce maximum the carbon emission. With the ability to reach water temperatures of up to 95°C / 203°F and offering best-in-class efficiency, they are an ideal choice for heat pump systems.
The GEA Grasso V HP series package introduces ammonia reciprocating compressors with a maximum design pressure of 39 bar. This makes these models the first choice for all hot water applications up to 70°C / 158°F to meet most industrial requirements in the food industry and elsewhere, especially for cleaning and processing.
The GEA Grasso 5HP package includes four sizes suitable for both refrigeration and heat pump applications, combining a compact design with proven technology to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability.

Around the world, GEA provides sustainable heating and cooling solutions. We work with our own contractors and also team up with trusted contractor customers in various domains. All the stakeholders – the end customer, the contractor, and GEA – benefit from the intense collaboration and combined expertise. GEA values a close partnership with its contractors.
In our Contractor Customer Talks video, we invite a GEA expert and a prominent contractor customer to talk about the challenges they face and the solutions they provide together in the cold store application, and specifically why a reciprocating compressor is a good choice for them.
Reciprocating compressors for CO2 freezing and NH3 heat pump applications.
GEA’s industrial reciprocating compressors stand for reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) thanks to less power consumption and maximum reliability.
Reciprocating compressors for industrial refrigeration
The GEA Grasso V XHP compressors, that use natural refrigerants such as ammonia, are designed to minimize their environmental impact. With the ability to reach water temperatures of up to 95°C / 203°F and offering best-in-class efficiency, they are an ideal choice for heat pump systems.
The GEA Ammonia Dryer removes water from the refrigerant cycle and makes the perfect addition to ammonia refrigeration systems along with filters and purgers.
PR-OLEO® ammonia oils are the natural choice to optimize industrial cooling and heating applications operating with reciprocating or screw compressors.
Digital transformation at GEA means more than new tools – it’s about bold ideas, customer impact and a culture that values and drives innovation. Meet this year’s GEA Better World Awards Innovation & Digitalization winners who were celebrated for solutions which are shaping the future of our business.
While the initial interest in heat pumps was to save on operating costs, reducing emissions is now the main driver for the technology. What if your favorite chocolate didn’t require cocoa beans and your coffee was locally produced? As climate disruption, price hikes and ethical concerns hit two of our most beloved indulgences, scientists are reimagining how we produce them – using microbes, not monocultures. The goal: preserve the flavor and properties of coffee and chocolate while minimizing carbon emissions and improving food resilience.
