Hygienic Design

Maximum process safety for microbially sensitive products in a sealed process: GEA extraction decanters in hygienic design

Producers within the food industry must meet high hygienic standards in terms of raw material quality, handling and processing. These high requirements are setting the standards for GEA CF Decanter Centrifuges. They treat microbially sensitive products in a sealed process, ensuring exceptionally high product and process safety. A feed system with optimized product distributor ensures smooth acceleration of the pulse or cereal slurry.

Hygienic design

Smooth surfaces and intelligent gap designs to ensure precise and reliable cleanability

We use only high-quality stainless steel for all product-contacting parts. But it’s not the quality of the material alone that makes for good cleaning, you also need the expertise to make gaps and seals cleanable and surfaces smooth. The smoother the surface, the better the cleanability. Our decanter parts can be supplied with a surface roughness of Ra = 0.8 µm

Safe and secure: GEA CIP (Cleaning in place) design is an essential part of GEA extraction decanters

During CIP, we first speed up the bowl to maximum speed, automatically, to use as much centrifugal force as possible to get the surfaces clean. In the second phase of our CIP cleaning cycle the speed is reduced, and the liquid ring collapses. This leads to high splashing and turbulence inside the bowl with the result that the CIP liquid hits every corner and every spot.

  • Safely clean machine
  • No dead ends or dirt traps
  • No product or CIP residues
  • Minimum loss of CIP liquids

Inside and outside cleaning: Spray nozzles clean every part of the GEA extraction decanter

Spray nozzles clean the decanter bowl not only from the outside but also from the inside. With our unique double-walled feed pipe and an array of additional nozzles you can even clean the inside of the scroll body and the gaps of the centripetal pump.

Last but not least: the highly cleanable box distributor of the GEA extraction decanter

The specifically designed box distributor allows for a superb cleanability due to its straight and smart design.

Variable ponds depths for a maximum cleaning. GEA Varipond P does more than providing optimum yield.

The Varipond P feature gives you more than just high yields. It has proven to be extremely useful for cleaning, especially when you look at the decanter’s solids side with the solid outlet and the catcher.

If you apply pressurized gas during CIP, you can operate the decanter to flood the solids side. Flooded decanter operation means you discharge liquid through the solid outlet – something you cannot do with a standard decanter. The additional pressure pushes the CIP liquid up the cone, through the solids discharge and the catcher, cleaning everything on its way out.
