High-yield separation: How it works

Highly efficient and reproducible: The GEA extraction decanter centrifuge

GEA’s decanter centrifuge technology extracts the valuable liquid phase from mashed and watered grains, beans and other sources, ensuring high yield, optimum hygienic purity and premium taste at reproducible quality.

Decanters have been used for numerous decades in food and beverage processing systems to separate a liquid phase from dispersions with high solid content.

Two key components of the decanter are the cylindrical-conical bowl and the scroll inside of it, both rotating at high differential speed. This setup ensures smooth product transport at high volumes, gentle extraction of the liquid and efficient discharge of dried solids.

High bowl speeds, an enormously high scroll torque and an effective control system to synchronize differential speed and solids load make GEA decanters particularly effective.

Maximum clarification efficiency

Varipond P collects the maximum amount of solids by setting the optimum pond depths

Lighter flocs tend to float on the pond’s surface instead of settling to the bowl wall. This makes it likely that they will overflow into the liquid discharge during production if you allow liquid to discharge over a basic weir.

GEA’s Varipond P includes a floaters disc which forces liquid to discharge beneath the surface. By adding the additional disc and applying pressurized gas, the pond depth is increased and more flocs are captured, maximizing clarification efficiency.

Maximum clarification efficiency

Varipond P automatic start-stop opearation does it on its own

This automated start and stop function of the Varipond P is set by a torque value. As long as torque is below that, Varipond P is automatically shut off. No solids in the bowl, no torque, and the more solids in the bowl, the higher the torque. Once the

decanter’s solids side is properly filled with solids, Varipond pressure is applied automatically, completely without man power, saving costs and avoinding human errors.
