Update to GEA’s Supplier Sustainability Engagement Program: Increased Focus on Primary Data
With the beginning of 2026, redefined sustainability criteria at GEA are applied within the Supplier Sustainability Engagement Program to reflect the growing importance of primary data for purchased goods and services.
Our existing requirements remain unchanged, including adherence to the Code of Conduct for Suppliers and Subcontractors, participation in EcoVadis assessments, and the establishment of science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets.
The updated program, Supplier Engagement 2.0, introduces a more differentiated approach that takes the diversity of supplier industries and company sizes into account. Where the potential impact on people and the environment is greatest, suppliers will be asked to provide more detailed primary data, particularly relating to CO₂ emissions, raw material usage, and recycling rates.
Further details will be provided in a comprehensive guidance booklet to be published at the beginning of Q2 2026.

The implementation of our sustainability criteria is progressing steadily
Our journey towards Sustainable Procurement began in 2022, with the launch of our Sustainable Procurement Strategy and clearly defined Sustainability Criteria – which all A-Suppliers must meet by 2030 at the latest.

Our Sustainable Procurement & Supply Chain strategy is designed to ensure that our suppliers align with our values and contribute to our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals by full filling our 4 sustainability criteria. One of them is registering at EcoVadis and sharing a Scorecard.
Supplier sustainability training
Human rights are non-negotiable for GEA, neither in our own operations nor in our supply chain. Our partner econsense provides training modules (videos + handbooks) on this topic, which we would like to recommend to our suppliers and business partners.
The training modules give both buyers and suppliers an understanding of the legal and normative requirements in the context of respecting and safeguarding human rights and provide an initial introduction to the topic. All videos and manuals are available in four different languages (English, German, Spanish and Chinese) and can be accessed via the econsense website.
