Net Zero 2040
Our Climate Transition Plan 2040
The GEA Climate Transition Plan 2040 sets out short, medium and long-term targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero across the entire value chain by 2040. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has confirmed that our targets for 2030 and the net-zero target for 2040 are aligned with the latest scientific research and will make an effective contribution to achieving the 1.5° Celsisus global warming target.

Scope 1 & 2
Transformation of our operations
We are implementing a clearly defined package of measures for our production sites and vehicle fleet. Our goal is to achieve Net Zero by 2040 by existing fossil fuels, driving forward electrification and harnessing renewable energy.
Decarbonizing our sites worldwide

Scope 3 downstream
Transformation of our product portfolio
Our product portfolio is being transformed, developing significantly better solutions when it comes to resource efficiency and environmental protection, enabling our customers to minimize their ecological footprint.
Customers are supported in assessing their emissions and selecting decarbonization solutions for their production facilities and processes.
We continuously improve the energy efficiency of our technologies and develop new engineering solutions that replace emissions-intensive processes.
Product innovations and new business models
Ressource-efficient solutions
We deliver sustainable solutions that strengthen our customers’ business, reduce energy use and cut greenhouse gas emissions.Digital solutions for energy efficiency
We unlock new efficiencies through digital technologies and help our customers to accelerate the path to decarbonization.Heat and energy recovery solutions
We provide comprehensive technology and consulting services to reduce heat demand and utilize waste heat.Circular economy
We embed circularity to enhance customer lifetime value and support both our customers’ and our own decarbonization targets.Supporting customer decisions in favor of sustainability
The majority of greenhouse gas emissions are generated in customers’ facilities during the use phase of our products. That is why we support our customers in sustainably transforming their production processes – through engineering consulting, application-oriented solutions, and the development of production processes that generate lower emissions.
Scope 3 upstream
Supply chain decarbonization
Our suppliers are key to ensuring a climate-neutral value chain. We will increasingly source our raw materials, commodities and services worldwide exclusively from verifiable qualified suppliers. We require our strategically most significant partners already today to demonstrate that they operate in an environmentally sustainable manner – because their actions impact our climate footprint. This is why we have established binding requirements with regard to our supply chain.
1
Acceptance of our Code of Conduct for Suppliers and Subcontractors
Minimum requirements in respect of environmental protection, human rights, fair working conditions, anticorruption and the fight against financial crime. Clear expectations regarding CO₂-reduced and energy saving solutions.2
Provision of an annual sustainability assessment
Assessment performed by external rating organization EcoVadis. Focus on Human Rights, Environment, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. Further carbon risk analysis of suppliers.3
Setting of an SBTi-validated climate target for 2030
Science-based target for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, validated by the SBTi. Provision of transparency regarding Carbon-Footprints of supplied products. 4
Fostering circularity by providing product related primary data
Sharing of primary product data regarding raw material consumption, recycling shares and embedded CO₂e emissions.Raising awareness
Taking a public stance
We are committed to raising public awareness of climate protection and playing an active role, sharing our experience and expertise and taking others along on our journey.

Corporate culture
Engineering for a better world is GEA’s guiding purpose. For us, a better world means a more sustainable one. Our workforce of more than 18,000 employees strives to achieve this each and every day. We are proud that our technologies and solutions contribute to enhancing daily life – whether at the breakfast table, in hospital or on the farm. Sustainability is embedded in the company’s DNA and paves the way for all that we do.
Climate Transition Plan 2040
Our pathway to Net Zero 2040
The Climate Transition Plan 2040 builds on the 2021 launched climate strategy and outlines clear steps to reach Net Zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2040. It focuses on transforming the product portfolio and operations, adapting the supply chain, strengthening social engagement, and aligning corporate culture with climate goals.
