Efficient, robust, yield-optimized
Decanter centrifuges are the heart of every wet separation process line to obtain starch. For wheat starch, 3-phase decanters separate the prepared dough into gluten and fine particle starch (B-starch), crude starch (A-starch) and a liquid phase containing dissolved materials (pentosanes).
Feed composition and flow rates can vary, especially with natural products. To maintain top separation performance, the decanter must adapt. With GEA Varipond C, you can instantly adjust pond depth and the separation zone – even during operation.
Just select the diameter, manually or automatically, and the system adjusts automatically to changing feed conditions. With Varipond C you can even program and save recipes in your control system to select the optimum operation mode with the touch of a button.
The deep pond design of the bowl results in excellent clarification results. The deeper pond makes for higher pressure onto the separated solids. On top, the solids are discharged at a smaller diameter in deep pond bowls compared to shallow pond designs. This reduces the energy consumption of your decanter.

In starch processing, stick-slip in decanters can cause costly damage. GEA’s Active Torque Control (ATC) detects and stops it early – automatically.
Using smart sensors, ATC adjusts speed to prevent stick-slip with minimal impact on performance. The result: dry solids, no downtime, and lower drying costs – all hands-free.
GEA offers the ATC automated monitoring and control system also as retrofits for already installed starchMaster decanters.
Fast and slow - the perfect bowl speed combination for CIP (cleaning-in-place)
During CIP, we first speed up the bowl to maximum speed to use as much centrifugal force as possible to get the surfaces clean. In the second phase of our CIP cleaning cycle the speed is reduced and the liquid ring collapses. This leads to high splashing and turbulence inside the bowl with the result that the CIP liquid hits every corner and every spot.

Nozzle separators are used for washing and concentrating the crude starch as well as for gluten thickening. A high quality starch can only be obtained if the small fiber fragments, lipids, proteins and dissolved substances are washed out from the starch fraction efficiently. For this process steps GEA offers 2-phase and 3-phase nozzle separators,...

For starch recovery clarifying decanters are installed in different process stages depending on the raw material.
