GEA is equipping the new veterinary vaccine institute in Huambo, Angola, with modern separation technology. A CSC 6 stainless steel disc centrifuge and a CIP (“Clean in Place”) system will be installed. These two skids are fully equipped with VESTA® valves from GEA. As part of GEA's aseptic valve technology, GEA VESTA® sterile valves feature a fully hermetic sealing system. The entire project is being carried out by GAUFF Engineering in collaboration with NORÁFRICA on behalf of the Angolan government, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MINAGRIF), with suppliers such as GEA. The visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the construction site of the bioveterinary center in early November 2025 was a great honor for all project partners.

With the Bio-Veterinary Center, the Angolan government is pursuing the goal of further diversifying the country's economy and sustainably increasing the efficiency and profitability of agriculture and livestock farming. After its planned commissioning in fall 2026, the center will produce a wide range of animal vaccines, including for cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, and poultry. This should significantly reduce Africa's dependence on imported vaccines. In addition, research and development laboratories and facilities for quality testing and control will be established to promote innovations specifically tailored to African conditions and pathogens.
GEA developed the CSC 6 centrifuge for the pharmaceutical biotechnology industry in accordance with current cGMP requirements (Current Good Manufacturing Practice). The CSC 6 system is manufactured in a steam-sterilizable design (SIP up to 2.5 bar/137°C) for aseptic processing. It features a fully automatic cleaning program (CIP, “Clean-in-Place”), which is implemented with the help of the CIP system also supplied.

The hydrohermetic feed system patented by GEA ensures gentle handling of shear-sensitive products. This results in gentler product feeding and optimal clarification, especially for sensitive products. The patented GEA Hydrostop system empties the concentrated solids from the separator at operating speed with a high dry matter content, enabling uninterrupted operation. All parts that come into contact with the product are made of high-alloy stainless steels with a surface quality of 0.8 µm or better. The seals comply with FDA and USP class VI requirements.
GEA VESTA® sterile valves are part of GEA's aseptic valve technology and feature a fully hermetic sealing system. The series uses a PTFE bellows that reliably separates product-contact areas from the environment, enabling high process and product safety. Ideal for applications in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and cosmetics. The flow-optimized, dead space-free seat valve design makes the valves particularly suitable for hygienically demanding processes. The one-piece PTFE bellows form the heart of the valve technology. Not only does it ensure reliable separation of the product from the environment, it also offers high chemical resistance and meets pharmaceutical-specific requirements such as FDA and USP compliance. The smooth surfaces, continuous sealing, and design suitable for CIP/SIP processes underline the hygienic standards.
The valves are designed so that all relevant components are quickly accessible and there are no loose parts. Routine checks can be carried out with standard tools. Bellows can be reused without any noticeable wear. The compact bellows unit contains all important wear parts that come into contact with the product, enabling particularly quick replacement.
