Filling Lines – Filling Modules
GEA’s range of volumetric electronic filling modules for extended shelf-life (ESL) beverages into PET or HDPE bottles offer high levels of hygiene and safety.
GEA’s ESL fillers are designed to handle a wide variety of still, sensitive beverages for cold-chain distribution including both high- and low-acid products, with or without pulps, fibers or pieces.
The hygienic filling process takes place in an ultraclean environment that is maintained with overpressure sterile air during production. This environment ensures the integrity and safety of the product. These high-performance fillers deliver speed, precision and flexibility, making them ideal for various production needs.
Engineered with a “scrap-free” design, they minimize product loss during start-up, changeovers, and shutdown. Reliable CIP and steam-based SIP procedures guarantee thorough sterilization and full process control.

The Fillstar DX Aero is GEA’s solution for filling sensitive liquid dairy products for cold-chain distribution. Designed for low to medium output, it’s ideal for small batches and frequent product changeovers.
Filling takes place in a hygienic cabin, maintained by a top-down laminar flow of sterile air that creates a slight overpressure, ensuring a clean, protected environment for every bottle. Depending on product needs, the system can be equipped with either load cells for weight-based filling or flow meters for volumetric filling.
An integrated recovery system minimizes product loss during start-up, changeovers and end-of-run, supporting sustainable and cost-effective operations. The Fillstar DX Aero can work with the customer’s cleaning solutions or integrate its own embedded cleaning unit, all within a compact footprint.
The GEA ESL fillers are available for PET and HDPE containers and have either a hygienic, washable capper for plastic closures or a fully integrated rotary turret to apply aluminum foil lids.
Benefits:

The GEA Aerobloc Fresh is a modular platform that offers dedicated configurations for the hygienic filling of milk and sensitive beverages — with a short shelf-life and distributed in cold-chain — without requiring any container decontamination.

The GEA Whitebloc Filling System Aero is an efficient, water rinse-free, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-based decontamination technology for plastic bottles and caps, suitable to fill ESL milk-based drinks and sensitive, cold-chain distributed beverages.

In case of prolonged Extended Shelf Life, special requirements must be addressed when decontaminating bottles for milk-based drinks and sensitive beverages. Using an H2O2-based treatment, Whitebloc is the low speed decontamination solution that best fits those needs.
Last year was not a year of hyped-up headlines for alternative proteins. Perhaps that is precisely why it was an important year for food biotech, the biotechnology behind everyday foods and ingredients. While the sector worked through a difficult funding environment, approvals were still granted, pilot lines set up and new platforms tested in the background. In short: headlines are turning into infrastructure. Frederieke Reiners heads GEA’s New Food business. She and her team work at the intersection of biotechnology and industrial food production. In this interview, she takes us on a world tour of food biotech in seven questions.
