Dairy processing plants continually strive to improve efficiency, reduce product losses, improve product quality, and ensure a robust, stable process. GEA Evaporator Product Recovery helps achieve these key requirements by allowing the low solids from the evaporator, that might previously have been discarded, to be safely reused in the process.
Low solids are produced as part of the normal evaporator production start-up following CIP (Cleaning in Place). They have a solids content of between 9% and 50%, which is too low to be fed into the dryer, so must be removed to allow the dryer to start smoothly. But rather than discard this valuable product, GEA Evaporator Product Recovery stores the low-solid phase in a separate holding tank, keeping it in perfect condition to be reintroduced into the process later. By reusing the low-solid phase it is possible to dose small batches, later in the same production process, to match them perfectly with recipe requirements for individual products. In this way, processors can improve product quality, maintain the stability of the process, and reduce product losses. Almost nothing is wasted.
GEA Evaporator Product Recovery includes the holding tank fitted with an automatic system for re-dosing the low solids downstream in the process as required. During storage the product is kept cool to ensure optimum conditions for reuse and can be diluted further if required. The system can be used with a single evaporator or with two evaporators feeding a single dryer 24/7. It can be retrofit to existing evaporation systems or fitted as part of a new installations.

What if your favorite chocolate didn’t require cocoa beans and your coffee was locally produced? As climate disruption, price hikes and ethical concerns hit two of our most beloved indulgences, scientists are reimagining how we produce them – using microbes, not monocultures. The goal: preserve the flavor and properties of coffee and chocolate while minimizing carbon emissions and improving food resilience.
Ports now compete not just on logistics, but on sustainability. At Greece’s Piraeus port, an advanced processing and recovery facility recycles ship waste oil into fuel. Equipped with GEA’s high-performance centrifuges, it sets a new benchmark for state-of-the-art, environmentally responsible port operations.
The 2022 CO2 shortage forced breweries to review their dependency on global supply chains. Many were forced to close, unable to carbonate their products. At its breweries in Germany, OeTTINGER GETRÄNKE is turning its own CO2 into a powerful lever for independence and sustainability – with the help of CO2 recovery technology from GEA.
