
The Project Safety Engineer is responsible for overseeing engineering projects from conception through to completion, with a strong emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance and ATEX requirements. Combining project management and safety engineering expertise, this role ensures all solutions are designed, engineered and delivered in accordance with applicable safety standards, hazardous area classifications, explosion protection principles and relevant legislation.

Support the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the company's quality management systems.
Operate within corporate policies and frameworks while contributing to strategic improvements where appropriate.
Act as a key interface between clients, engineering and manufacturing teams, promoting a safety-first approach throughout the project lifecycle.
Ensure compliance with ATEX, DSEAR, the Machinery Directive and equipment validation requirements.
Prepare Technical Files for equipment and projects in accordance with relevant legislation.
Provide technical leadership on risk assessments, explosion protection, hazardous area compliance and applicable harmonised standards, including EN14460:2018, IEC 60079-32-1 and ISO 12100.
Lead root cause investigations into technical incidents and product failures, implementing effective corrective and preventative actions.
Develop and execute test plans and test rigs to validate the safety and performance of equipment and components.
Identify and implement improvements to engineering tools, standards and procedures to enhance safety, compliance and operational efficiency.
Carry out site surveys, hazardous area classifications and ATEX audits, including travel within the UK and internationally where required.
Plan, coordinate and monitor engineering activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with all applicable standards.
Work with third-party contractors to establish safe working practices and realistic project delivery plans.
Ensure effective integration of process requirements into automation and control systems.
Manage project tasks and associated resources to achieve cost, quality and delivery objectives while providing regular progress updates to Project Managers.
Work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines and projects simultaneously.
Ensure all engineering documentation and information is checked, verified and approved in accordance with company procedures.
Take ownership of allocated tasks, ensuring they are completed efficiently while meeting project cost, schedule and quality objectives.
Collaborate with other GEA sites to achieve operational efficiencies and share best practice.
Take responsibility for your own professional development by identifying and agreeing current and future training needs.
Support change initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
Maximise the effective use of available systems, tools and resources to achieve the highest levels of efficiency, quality and delivery performance.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date information within all relevant business systems in line with your responsibilities.
Undertake any other duties that are reasonably required and are appropriate to your skills, experience and qualifications.
Achieve personal performance objectives as agreed and documented within the company's performance management process.
Degree qualified in Electrical, Process or Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering or technological discipline.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical process systems and equipment qualification procedures would be advantageous.
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and cross-functional teams.
