Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Industrial Refrigeration Design Engineer to join our established engineering team in Kent. This is a key technical role with responsibility for developing high‑quality, energy‑efficient refrigeration designs for major industrial projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Design industrial refrigeration systems including DX CO₂, pumped CO₂, pumped ammonia, glycol/secondary systems, chillers, and heat pumps
Perform refrigeration load calculations, energy modelling, and system performance analysis
Produce engineering documentation: P&IDs, schematics, layout drawings, and equipment schedules
Select and size key components such as compressors, heat exchangers, valves, and pipework
Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., EN378, PED, ASHRAE) and internal procedures and standards
Support the creation of construction and commissioning documentation
Conduct design stage risk assessments and assist with HAZOP reviews
Work closely with project managers, installation teams, and clients to define technical requirements and ensure smooth project delivery
Provide engineering support during installation, commissioning, and handover phases
Liaise with suppliers for technical specifications, pricing, and product selection
Conduct site surveys and attend technical meetings as required
Use AutoCAD to produce accurate mechanical and refrigeration system drawings
Ensure design output is delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with company standards
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of refrigerants, low‑GWP technologies, and industry developments
Experience requirements will vary depending on background in industrial refrigeration system design. We are open to considering candidates at both junior and senior level, with the role scope and remuneration aligned to experience.
Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (preferred)
Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer and refrigeration principles
Proficient in interpreting and producing P&IDs
Skilled in 2D AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
Strong analytical, problem‑solving and report‑writing abilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Highly organised, detail‑oriented, and able to work to tight deadlines
Self‑motivated, proactive, and eager to learn
Valid UK driving licence
Candidates should ideally be based within a commutable distance of Kent and be willing to travel as required for business purposes, typically on a bi-weekly basis.
