Low consumption rates and running costs are the key to sustainability and economic success. The electricity and water consumption of the DairyRobot R9500 was independently tested once again.
In addition to Individuality, Efficiency & Comfort as well as Partnership, we put great emphasis on Transparency and Sustainability when it comes to automatic milking. This is why our milking robot is the only one in the market which has built-in electricity and water meters. So you can keep an eye on consumption data at all times. But that is not enough: The Edition 2021 of our DairyRobot R9500 has been independently tested by the German Agricultural Society (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft – DLG). Our milking robot is a true energy-saver!
The official DLG test proves that our DairyRobot R9500 works economically. Thanks to our continuous optimizations, the new generation of the DairyRobot R9500 has achieved significantly improved efficiency in automated milking.
Download German article (English coming in June)The DairyRobot R9500 single box requires up to 37% less energy.* Which means only 1.4 kWh per 100 l of tank milk.
*Compared to its previous model in the DLG-Test 2018; Optimised AMS farm Scenario 1
Even when your system is not milking, it still consumes electricity. That is why we have reduced the consumption here as well: by up to 35%*, meaning only 107 Wh.
*Compared to its previous model in the DLG-Test 2018
The water consumption of the DairyRobot R9500 1-box system has been reduced by around 13% to only 35 l per 100 l of tank milk.*

For a practical simulation, DLG uses artificial udders to measure different milk flows and quantities.
The DLG records different measured values during the tests. Using different calculation models, farms can then calculate their consumption levels.
A unique global standard was developed nine years ago. This was set out by the DLG, the Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture (Bayerische Landesanstalt für Landwirtschaft – LfL), the agricultural magazine profi, and manufacturers of milking technology (including GEA). With this standard, automatic milking systems can be independently tested, and their consumption can be compared amongst the various milking manufacturers. By making it possible for every manufacturer to have their system tested at the DLG test center according to a defined process, transparency is ensured.
For a practical simulation, DLG uses, for example, artificial udders to measure different milk flows and quantities. Using different calculation models (the so-called scenarios), it is thus possible to make forecasts on the consumption of dairy farms depending on their farm management and herd structure.
With DairyRobot R9500 sharing is fun: Since up to four milking robots can be connected to each supply unit, the results with a multi box system are likely to be even better in terms of resource savings. With a multi box system, the power and water consumption per box is significantly reduced. Adding a second box already results in even less power and water consumption. We had therefore initiated an additional test for a two-box system at the DLG. We are looking forward to the results!
With the R9500 milking robot the choice is yours: Automated milking with voluntary milking times or in groups via group milking. Whichever way fits your operation, thanks to GEA’s leading milking technology, you have a system that is intelligently designed for you and your cows!
The improvements of the GEA DairyRobot R9500 in energy and water consumption are due to extensive technical optimizations. The new generation of milking systems includes significant enhancements to the milking technology module, the In-Liner Everything milking process and the cleaning process.
