GEA regenerative sterile water unit – energy‑efficient sterile water generation for aseptic processing
The GEA regenerative sterile water unit is designed to provide a continuous, reliable, on-site supply of sterile water for aseptic homogenizers operating within a UHT process. Suitable for both direct and indirect UHT processes, our compact, energy efficient plug and play skid delivers controlled quantities of sterile water to flush pistons and valve seats in aseptic homogenizers and minimize the risk of recontamination.
Sterile water acts as a crucial barrier that prevents bacteria and spores from entering parts of aseptic homogenizers that might then lead to product contamination. The sterile water protects moving interfaces such as pistons and homogenizing valves, and ensures a stable, hygienic process. The GEA sterile water unit provides this supply continuously, using a validated sterilization process, alongside precise temperature control and reliable monitoring of temperature, backpressure and flow.
The GEA regenerative sterile water unit uses heat exchange technology in combination with soft water to dramatically lower energy demand.
Compared with conventional condensate cooling stations, the GEA regenerative sterile water unit offers:
This all results in lower operating costs, longer equipment lifetime, and improved process stability.
The GEA sterile water unit is designed for use as a sterile barrier in:
It is widely used in dairy, beverage, and plant‑based food production environments.
The regenerative sterile water unit combines high‑level aseptic safety with quantifiable environmental benefits. By significantly reducing energy and water usage, it allows producers to:
All without compromising product safety or process integrity.

The GEA regenerative sterile water unit has been awarded the GEA Add Better label, which promotes GEA’s sustainable solutions that are significantly more resource efficient than their predecessors. Efficiency improvements are calculated in accordance with ISO standards and independently validated by TÜV Rheinland, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services.
Receiving this label confirms the system’s significant contributions to energy savings, water reduction, and CO₂ reduction, and underscores GEA’s commitment to engineering solutions that can positively support customers’ sustainability goals, while reducing environmental impact.
