The challenge

Extensive efforts have been undertaken to develop and optimize new materials for lithium-ion batteries to be able to address the power and energy demands of mobile electronics and electric vehicles. However, the introduction of large-format lithium-ion batteries is hampered by high cost, safety concerns, and deficiencies in energy density and calendar life.
