Niklas Zeringer, Technical Service Operator

“I started my apprenticeship at GEA Hilge in 2009, training as a cutting machine operator. After that, I worked in assembly and then switched some years later to quality assurance. When we relocated the production of our hygienic pumps from Bodenheim to Koszalin, I moved into service. Since December 2024, I’ve been officially working as a technical service operator.”

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

“Helpful. I always try to support wherever I can, even if it’s technically not my task. If someone needs help, I’m there. That’s just who I am.”

What do you value most in your team and new colleagues?

“For me, the personal fit is essential. You can learn the technical stuff, but personality can’t be trained. A friendly, open, and supportive character matters, especially in service. It’s about building relationships. If you’re technically brilliant but don’t work well with others, it doesn’t help the team.”

You’ve had a lot of contact with other locations. What connects GEA employees globally?

“The human side. I’ve travelled to Koszalin fourteen times to support the transfer project and worked closely with the team there. The collaboration was amazing. People welcomed us, invited us for a drink or a bite after work, or even to their Christmas party. We built real trust. Yes, the culture was new for me, and the language barrier was a challenge, but we found ways to understand each other. Sometimes with gestures, sometimes with drawings, but always with respect.”

What project are you most proud of?

“Definitely the relocation of our pump production from Germany to Poland. It was tough – nine-hour trips, ups and downs – but also one of the best experiences I’ve had. I learned so much. My English also improved significantly, which I was really nervous about at the beginning of the project. But most of all, I saw how the team in Koszalin grew with each visit. You could feel their confidence growing, week by week. That was powerful.”
