First screw compressor S3-800
Our 50 years of innovation begin with the S3-800, developed by VEB Kühlautomat Berlin (KAB) in East Germany. The operation became a private company in 1990 and from 1994 part of the GEA group.

Screw compressors for marine application
Compact dimensions and easy-to-service parts – today still a GEA hallmark – made our screw compressors the ideal solution for fishingtrawler.

Asymmetrical 4:6 rotor profile
The first of our screw compressors employed a symmetrical profile. The switch to an asymmetrical profile in 1976 became the key to achieving greatest efficiency.

Today’s 5:6 rotor profile launched
The original 4:6 rotor profile changed in 1989 to the newly developed 5:6 profile with increased energy-efficiency. This profile is still the preferred rotor design at GEA today.

Variable internal volume ratio (Vi) and infinite capacity control
Another reason for today’s efficiency of GEA screw compressors is the variable internal volume ratio (Vi) with combined part load adjustment, launched in 1989 (our last patent registered in then East Germany).

First process gas compressor
Gas compressors have been a GEA specialty for decades. Since 1997, our positive-displacement screws have been used for compressing natural and other industrial gases.

Introduction of 52 bar compressors
Screw compressors are not for cooling only! For heat pump applications and for the oil & gas industry, GEA began the development of 52 bar compressors e.g. for an efficient and sustainable heating solution with NH3 as refrigerant.

First steel-cast compressor
For highest safety and reliability in the oil & gas and chemical industry, GEA started launching special model variants to the stringent API 619 requirements by the American Petroleum Institute.

130 bar CO2 compressor concept
Being aware of the ongoing F gas regulations, GEA started early with the development of a 130 bar screw compressor for transcritical CO2 operations.

Redesigned GEA Grasso M series
In 2014 GEA redesigned and relaunched the GEA Grasso M series, now fundamentally optimized for the construction of efficient NH3 packages in line with the motto "Simply Efficient".

Semi-hermetic compact NH3 screw compressor
GEA CompaX, first field tested in 2017, became the world’s first semi-hermetic compact NH3 screw compressor, marked by its copper winding suction gas cooled motor.

Celebrating 50 years of innovation
From frozen supermarket pizza in Dallas to the world's largest indoor ski slope in Dubai, GEA screw compressors keep things at the right degree, with more than 33,000 units sold as of today.
