PackExpo 2019

GEA showed off its “packaging smarts” with the debut of three pieces of new equipment at the 2019 PACK EXPO in Las Vegas. Visitors were able to see full-scale equipment in action at the GEA booth and got insights into how the new technology works to improve efficiencies at production facilities.

Visitors could evaluate the benefits that can be brought to their product lines, thanks to the support of our beverage and food processing experts, discovering our latest innovation in thermoforming equipment, completed with OxyCheck, the world’s first non-invasive quality assurance system that checks every modified atmosphere pack (MAP). 

By stepping by at GEA booth, attendees could directly see the most efficient and reliable vertical packaging machine on the market in action and experience the simplicity that a liquid filler offers in rapid changeover between glass bottles, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles.

GEA SmartPacker TwinTube – boosts flexibility and automation in vertical packaging

The new SmartPacker TwinTube has been completely re-designed as a future-proof modular system with increased functional efficiency promoting higher operational uptime and ease of use. The TwinTube is a continuous motion vertical machine, suitable for packaging candy, nuts & dried fruits and other on-the-go products in pillow bags of different sizes. It operates with two parallel forming tubes, achieving combined speeds of up to 500 bags per minute (weighing 10 to 18 g each). The new features include:

  • Modular design for easily addition of new options or upgrade their machine
  • Jumbo Roll, which allows film reels of up to 100 kg to use for long production runs
  • Automatic web tracking of film deviations during production, without the need of manual adjustment. 
  • Reinforced sealing technology allows more flexibility in terms of film types and specifications
  • Fully integrated GEA TiroLabel unit for easy labeling and maintenance

GEA OxyCheck - Quality Control System

GEA presented its revolutionary packaging technology OxyCheck, a non-invasive, inline quality control system that accurately measures the oxygen (O2) content in every single Modified Atmosphere Package (MAP). 

OxyCheck is a solution offering food safety assurance and the reduction of waste throughout the supply chain. A non-invasive, inline quality control system that accurately measures the oxygen (O2) content in every single Modified Atmosphere Package (MAP). 

Neither the film nor the sealing is damaged, and the contents remain intact and uncontaminated. It can also be used to detect leaks in packs during production. Available for GEA PowerPak thermoformers - either as an option on new machines or as a retrofit for existing MAP-compatible machines.

GEA Visitron Filler ALL-IN-ONE

An ‘all-in-one’ rapid changeover, multipurpose rinse, fill and close solution for aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles  With the GEA Visitron Filler ALL-IN-ONE, beverage manufacturers can switch between filling cans, glass or plastic containers in just 20 minutes, without the use of tools. 

  • Versatile filling valves can fill still, carbonated, alcoholic or non-alcoholic products 
  • Fully automated capping system for precise alignment of every cap and lid 
  • Single or double air evacuation for all containers (low O2 pick-up) 
  • Unique seaming system means cans with different diameters, or even a combination of cans and crown corks, can be closed on one turret 
  • Capacity ranges from 3,000 to 25,000 cans and/or bottles per hour
