  • Doemens Academy receives brewing and filling equipment worth almost EUR 1 million for new brewing center near Munich
  • Technology leader GEA promotes training in the beverage industry

GEA has equipped the Doemens Academy’s new brewing center in Gräfelfing near Munich, Germany, with the latest brewing and filling technology, valued at just under one million euros. With this commitment, GEA is promoting practical training in the brewing, beverage and food industries. In October 2021, Doemens moved into its state-of-the-art new training and further education center, which includes training and seminar rooms as well as laboratories.

In congratulating Doemens on their new home, Heinz-Jürgen Kroner, Senior Vice President Liquid & Filling Technologies at GEA, said: “As a partner and member of the Board of Trustees, we wish to provide impetus for the teaching process while cultivating dialog between students and industry. Together with the brewing experts who learn their craft at Doemens, GEA develops sustainable strategies for the beverage and brewing industries. Our partnership at the new Academy strengthens the ties between our two organizations even further.”

“Doemens is very grateful to GEA for the exceptional level of trust and commitment they have shown. We are proud to offer tailor-made concepts and solutions for the beverage and food industry at our new brewing center which we are able to implement thanks to the technologies provided by our partners,” said Dr. Werner Gloßner, Managing Director of the Doemens Academy.

In addition to its work on the Board of Trustees, GEA has for the past 20 years offered technical seminars on pumps and, more recently, on cleaning technology. The Academy’s aspiring brewing and beverage specialists also enjoy regular excursions to Kitzingen, where GEA brewing technology is designed and built.

Following commissioning of the beer separator in mid-November 2021, all the GEA equipment is now up and running at the Doemens brewing center.

  • With its maximum capacity of 20 hectoliters per hour, the GEA brewpub Separator Skid is a special development for microbreweries. Pared down to the essentials, the compact version delivers the same efficiency advantages as the larger GEA separators. Thanks to basic automation, extended service intervals and a compact design, the skid provides Doemens with reliable, reproducible results and manageable operating costs.

  • Harnessing the principle of membrane filtration, the GEA AromaPlus Membrane Dealcoholization Unit dealcoholizes beers in the gentlest way possible using reverse osmosis at low temperatures of around 10°C. Only water and alcohol can pass through the specially developed reverse osmosis membranes. Important ingredients that contribute to the aroma, color and turbidity are retained. GEA has installed more than 20 AromaPlus units since their launch in 2016 – including three pilot plants – in projects of various sizes. These are now producing not only top and bottom fermented beers but also filtered as well as unfiltered brews – all with zero-percent alcohol. Doemens received a compact testing unit that processes 100-liter batches.
