Setting Sail For Future Fuels

Set a Course for Sustainability

The shipping market is changing dramatically: topics such as future fuels, exhaust gas treatment, digitalization, process monitoring, and the careful use of resources already play a major role and are set to become yet more important in the future.
Even though they still constitute a challenge for us all. However, seafarers have never shied away from new horizons.

We are therefore strengthening our position as a pioneer of green technologies within the maritime sector, helping you chart your course to your chosen port in a safe, eco-friendly, and cost-effective way.

Green Technologies for the Deep Blue Sea

The future of shipping is sustainable. We are playing our part by pursuing our Climate Strategy.

Here, we have set ourselves ambitious targets in order to help meet the 1.5°C limit. Our products and services also reflect this goal. They not only optimize your processes in a cost-effective way, but also help to save the planet.

Maritime Sustainability with GEA

Drawing on our 115 years of experience in the field of marine separators, we are investing in the future – and delivering sustainable solutions today.

We are already supplying the shipping industry with green solutions: these not only include bilge water and exhaust gas treatment systems (SOx and NOx), but also digitalized and automated process optimizations such as the GEA marine Upgrade Kit, which enables you to save up to 686 metric tons of fuel each year (for a fleet of 50 vessels) and halve the oil sludge in your engines. As a result, you not only save money, but are also helping to save the planet.

We also supply sustainable, natural refrigerants based marine refrigeration solutions for the fishing industry, cruise industry, on board refrigerated cargo ships (reefers) or juice carriers, as well as GEA Grasso BOG and LD (boil-off gas and low duty) screw compressors for LNG-fueled vessels, also suitable for gaseous ammonia fuel or other applications e.g. CO2 capture.

With a view to developing sustainable and economically viable future solutions, we join forces with strong partners to carry out research on the production of the future fuels ammonia, methanol, and hydrogen, as well as on the development of LNG technologies  which enable straightforward retrofitting of the aforementioned green alternatives.

All of these technologies are still in development. However, it is likely that a range of solutions will gain market traction.
