Störtebeker Craft Brewery in the city of Stralsund is GEA’s first customer in Germany to use the GEA HOPSTAR® Dry for the dynamic cold extraction of hop oils. Early in 2019, the two companies signed a contract to build, install and commission GEA’s system; the work was successfully completed the following August. Now the beers Störtebeker makes with high pellet loads come out even more homogeneous using fully automated, stabilized processes.
GEA has launched its new nitrogen freezing pilot plant for bacteria, giving food and dairy processors the opportunity to trial this new technology in their own plants before investing in production-scale equipment. The demand for decanters for sludge treatment is high. It is the world's first real-time system for effective early detection of mastitis in each individual quarter during the overall milking process. In July of this year, GEA received the order for Dairygold’s next milk powder plant in Ireland in Mallow, County Cork. According to preliminary figures, the positive trend compared with the same period last year in order intake (approx. EUR 1,180 million, plus 12 percent), revenue (approx. EUR 1,180 million, plus 4 percent) and operating EBITDA (approx. EUR 135 million; plus 12 percent) has persisted throughout the third quarter of 2018. However, earnings development, in particular in the customer industry Dairy Processing, falls short of the company’s own expectations.

GEA has supplied centrifugal separation equipment to Suape Energia, a major power producer in Brazil. The equipment has allowed the company to process residual oil sludge from a 381.2 MW oil-fired power station to reduce disposal costs, recover water for use elsewhere in the plant and provide clean fuel oil for sale and to run its internal heating system. The operator believes the GEA technology to be the most efficient slop oil processing plant in Brazil. Full payback on the BRL 2 million-plus investment has been achieved in just four months.

GEA Glashütte Freital ordered GEA for supply and installation of a compact plant for the cleaning of flue gases resulting from melting furnaces. Customer has selected GEA’s BisCat technology (Bischoff Catalysator technology) thanks to low space requirement and combination of several process steps in one reactor. The new furnace has a melting capacity about of 150 t/d, commissioning along with GEA’s emission control plant is foreseen for March 2019.

The manual cleaning of the disk stack of mineral oil separators has been a tedious, time-consuming and dirty matter. Dismantling was often required. With its service product EffiClean, GEA is presenting an innovative solution at the SMM, the leading international maritime trade fair in Hamburg, with which disk stacks can be cleaned in just 20 minutes, depending on the degree of soiling, instead of usually up to eight hours.
GEA supplies Saint-Gobain with two Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS) each for the utilization of waste heat from the float glass production lines in Pisa, Italy and Sriperumbudur, India. Commissioning is planned for the first half of 2019.

A zero liquid discharge (ZLD) wastewater treatment plant for a power plant in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, marks another success for GEA’s range of small ZLD systems. Abengoa S.A. will use the ZLD plant to convert a salt-laden wastewater into pure water for internal recycling and dry solids for disposal.
GEA recently sold its first buttermaking machine type BUE to an Indian dairy producer. Creamy Foods Limited, located in the state Uttar-Pradesh, placed an order for a GEA BUE 6000, which has a capacity of up to 6000kg/h butter, making it the largest buttermaking machine in India. During the recent ACHEMA trade show, which took place in Frankfurt, Germany (11–15 June), GEA hosted a joint press conference with other key suppliers to the pharmaceutical sector to highlight a number of industry collaborations that are helping to facilitate the uptake of continuous manufacturing (CM) technology in the drug production sector.

Market launch at ACHEMA 2018. Under the slogan “Making science work”, for the first time GEA presented the new generation of separators for pharmaceutical applications with the innovative GEA flexChange concept at the international process industry trade fair in Frankfurt am Main from June 11 to June 15 in hall 4, stand F46. Recently, GEA sold its 500th dairy separator with integrated direct drive to a dairy processing plant in North America. The customer is one of the largest dairy processing companies in the world turning milk into a wide range of dairy products, including yogurt, cheese, butter and cream.
Thanks to robust growth in small and mid-sized orders, GEA’s order intake in the first quarter of 2018 almost matched the level of the previous year.
After GEA completed the production tests for spirits manufacturer Mast-Jägermeister SE at its new “South Production” plant in Wolfenbüttel, Germany, the production plant went into commercial operation in April 2018.

Düsseldorf-based technology group GEA has published figures for the 2017 financial year together with a business outlook for 2018. The group’s order intake for the whole of 2017 amounted to EUR 4,751 million, which is 1.7 percent above the previous year’s level and sets a new record for GEA.
At yesterday’s ordinary meeting, the Supervisory Board of GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft extended the terms of office of Steffen Bersch (48) and Niels Erik Olsen (51) as members of the company’s Executive Board, scheduled to end on December 31, 2018, by a further three years until December 31, 2021.
The Dairy Technology Award, presented by the trade magazines molkerei-industrie and International Dairy Magazine (both part of B&L MedienGesellschaft) and the Association of Ahlem Engineers, once again goes to GEA in 2018.

GEA has successfully issued a borrower’s loan note in the amount of EUR 250 million. Realigning its funding structure, the Düsseldorf based technology group offers four tranches with maturities of five and seven years, each subdivided into a fixed rate and a variable rate portion.

GEA completed the acquisition of Vipoll, headquartered in Križevci pri Ljutomeru, Slovenia, which was signed in November 2017. With the acquisition, GEA has added to its group a manufacturer of filling technologies for soft drinks, beer and fresh milk products into glass bottles and cans, as well as pet bottles.
