Scrubber Technology Hot gas quench systems

Vertically standing scrubbing tube with gas inlet from above and nozzles arranged radially/tangentially on the tube below the gas inlet.

The quenching or the fast cooling of the hot gas is carried out by water, which is injected in surplus so that by evaporation of water in the hot exhaust gas this is cooled down. The thermal balance between gas and liquid (water) is characterized by the so-called cooling limit temperature. The level of the cooling limit temperature depends on the water content of the hot exhaust gas and the gas temperature at the inlet in the quench. 

The equilibrium is achieved in the apparatus within a distance of approx. 1 m. 

In order to protect the apparatus from the hot exhaust gases, scrubbing fluid is tangentially injected in the entry into the hot gas quench so that a liquid film is built on the tank wall. The liquid film protects the scrubbing tube from the high gas temperature and prevents existing solid matters from caking/adhering to the inner side of the tube. The gas flows in the center of the tube is cooled by liquid which is evenly distributed as a liquid screen over the total cross section of the tube via flat jet nozzles which are arranged on the circumference. In the event of a malfunction or fault, an emergency water system has to provide the nozzle systems with water for production of the liquid film and quenching of the gas in order to protect downstream-arranged equipment against thermal damage. 

In general, the quench is extended by another spray nozzle level which is arranged underneath the quench nozzle level so that a chemical absorption of noxious gases and/or a particle separation can be realized, similar to the jet scrubber. Independently operating emergency water systems in addition secure the complex against thermal damage in the event of a malfunction or failure of the liquid task. 

Our hot gas quench can be combined with any of our scrubber type.
