The GEA MaxiFormer is a rotary drum former that continuously produces formed products with excellent shape retention and weight accuracy using only air to release the products. This former is designed for high-volume production of chicken nuggets, popcorn, fillet, patties and steaks. It is available in 600 and 1000 mm wide executions, and in addition to the MaxiFormer, the complete system includes a Handtmann vane pump (Handtmann is a GEA partner), MaxiDrum, storage for 4 drums and a MaxiClean.

The GEA MultiFormer and GEA FreshFormer are easy-to-use plate formers that use air and water to knock-out products. They are designed for low to medium capacity forming of poultry, pork, beef, fish and meat replacement products. The FreshFormer is available in a 400 mm wide execution and is ideal for smaller batches of fresh meat. The MultiFormer is available in a 400 and 600 mm version and is the most versatile and flexible former for a wide range of products and shapes in the market.

GEA MultiFormer

The GEA MultiFormer adds appeal to food by forming red meat, pork, poultry, seafood, cheese, vegetables and meat replacement products into virtually any shape. The simple design delivers high production capacities, and it comes with a programmable PLC to optimize the forming cycle for every individual product. Easily exchanged forming plates guarantee fast product changeover times. There are three line widths: 400, 600 and 900 mm.

Working principle 
The GEA MultiFormer produces rectangular, round, triangular, irregular and novelty shapes with a flat or 3-dimensional appearance. The machine is suitable for meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, potato and vegetarian products. The proven ’plug and play’ product changeover means the machine can be equipped with different form plates in minute. Simplicity of operation makes this machine an industry benchmark for versatility in case ready and meal component applications.

Performance 
The heavy-duty GEA MultiFormer is very reliable and delivers production capacities up to 2500 kg/h. Experience has shown that uptime of 98% or higher is possible, while low maintenance costs ensure value for money. The hopper and feeding system are designed for easy cleaning when changing to different product material. The hopper is easily lifted for access for cleaning and tooling change. Relevant parameters such as capacity, product pressure and product feeding are stored per product recipe. Process control is via a GEA touch panel interface. The combination of a simple and effective design, high output, low energy consumption, accurate portioning and high product yield makes the GEA MultiFormer a leader in overall efficiency.

Output quality 
Recipe management via the operator panel helps ensure constant product quality. Consistent product feed by a horizontal auger and step-feeding system minimizes structural damage to the product. For non-free flowing products, a bridge breaker can be installed to avoid hopper blockage. Low weight deviation is ensured due to accurate alignment of feeding hopper, press system and form plate, and minimized tolerances between form plate and counter plates. Product give-away is reduced to almost zero by the patented GEA Vario Seal system option.

GEA FreshFormer

The GEA FreshFormer increases flexibility in fresh meat forming and saves money by significantly reducing the residue (giveaway) at changeover. It forms fresh red meat into virtually any shape for meat balls, steak haché, beef tartar, burgers and more. It is also suitable for formed vegetable products. The machine is enhanced with features to meet the specific needs for forming fresh products, and comprises our experience from the GEA EasyFormer and GEA MultiFormer. Easily exchangeable forming plates in combination with easy access to the hopper guarantee fast product changeover times.

Preserve the structure of the fresh red meat and vegetables

Working principle 
By using a feeder instead of conventional screw feed, the GEA FreshFormer preserves the structure of the fresh red meat and vegetables. This avoids damage to the product and ensures it maintains its appetizing appearance. To avoid product blocking inside the hopper interrupting forming of non-free-flowing products, an optional bridge breaker can be installed.

Performance 
The GEA FreshFormer delivers low- to medium production capacities, and our customers' experience in the field consistently shows that uptime of 98% and higher is possible. The hopper and feeding system are easy to clean when changing to different product material. The hydraulic/pneumatic drive system delivers maximum running speeds up to 50 strokes per minute (depending on application). Belt width is 400 mm.

Output quality 
In contrast to further processed meat products, which tend to be produced in very high volumes, fresh formed red meat products are made to order in small batches. This means more changeovers per shift. If too much product is left in the hopper at changeover, the giveaway is unnecessarily high and there is a higher risk of product mixing in the hopper. The GEA FreshFormer overcomes these issues by using a hopper with a product feeding system that minimizes the residue after each batch. In addition the hopper is provided with an accessible low-level door. Product residue is easy to remove, meaning typically less than one kilogram is left in the hopper at changeover - compared to over six kilograms in formers with similar capacity. The potential savings in product giveaway ensure a fast payback time for your investment in a GEA FreshFormer.
