Spray Dryer FILTERMAT® Spray Dryer

The FILTERMAT® Spray Dryer transforms sticky, hygroscopic, thermoplastic, and slowly crystallising dairy and food products into freely flowing, agglomerated powder – gently and efficiently.

The FILTERMAT® Spray Dryer is designed specifically for dairy and food products which are difficult to spray-dry due to high contents of carbohydrates, fatty substances, or proteins. It is applied in the production of a wide range of products comprising e.g. Whey Powder, powders from fruit and vegetables, flavors, proteins and mixed products.

The drying process

The FILTERMAT® Spray Dryer has a built-in conveyor belt at the bottom of the drying chamber. 


The concentrated product enters the drying chamber via a set of nozzles; and the specifically designed air disperser will generate an air flow pattern in the drying chamber directing the particles downwards onto the conveyor belt. This is where the first stage of the drying is completed. As the powder’s residence time on the belt is several minutes, this gives sufficient time to complete the drying and cooling of the powder whilst while maintaining the required powder temperatures. The FILTERMAT®’s capacity for controlling and maintaining precise air temperatures in different sections facilitates the precise engineering of powder properties, thus providing the plant with the plenty of scope and flexibility as regards the production of product categories as well as the agglomerate structures rendered possible. 


As the belt is porous it permits drying air to pass first through the powder 'mat ' that has been built up and acts as a filter, and next through the porous belt. Only a very small amount of particles from the belt will remain in the drying air. A SANICIP™ Bag Filter will collect such particles.
