Submerged scrubbers

The submerged scrubber consists of a vertically arranged scrubbing tube. Its gas outlet is submerged into the scrubbing fluid.

The exhaust gas to be cleaned enters the tube from top and leaves it through the submersion in the scrubbing fluid. Often in combination with one in the tank integrated annular demister unit.

The submerged scrubber consists of a vertical tube, which is mounted on a container with scrubbing liquid. The scrubbing tube extends as far as into the container, that the tube end or the gas outlet submerged into the scrubbing fluid. Therefore the gas is forced to flow through the scrubbing fluid. This is done by an appropriate arrangement of gas openings on the circumference of the submerged scrubbing tube. In the forming gas-liquid fluidized bed, the turbulent flow conditions allow a good absorption of gaseous pollutants and a good particle separation into the scrubbing fluid.

The quench effect at the same time ensures the cooling down of gases or vapors. Thereby the gas stream is cooled down to the respective cooling limit temperature by evaporation of water into the gas stream. Vapors can be cooled down and condensed by heat conduction. 

Given the modified design, including a quench, gases of up to 1,300°C  can be cooled and scrubbed in one process.

In the area of the gas passing  and in the forming gas-liquid fluidized-bed the absorption of the pollutant component dissolves in the liquid. As regards chemical absorption, purging the exhaust air of contaminants is chemically effected.  Then separation efficiencies from up to 98% per washing stage are achievable.

Benefitting from the so-called inertial separation effect, solid particles or drops are separated in the area of the motive nozzles by collision with quickly flying droplets of the liquid. In this way, particles with a diameter of ≥ 5 µm can be extracted almost completely.

Droplets entrained in the fluidized bed must be deposited by an appropriate droplet separator from the gas stream. This is either done by an in the tank integrated  annulus  separator or by a commercially available drop separator downstream the scrubber.
