The GEA Vision: Brewery 4.0

GEA’s visionary “Brewery 4.0” concepts, such as continuous brewing aspects, a revolutionary production management system and new developments in digitalization and big data handling will lead to the next level of beer production. Technology innovations include:

  • big data handling and manufacturing execution systems (MES) that facilitate sophisticated trend analysis and the prediction of long-term process trends
  • next-generation process analysis
  • decanters as a continuous mash separation solution
  • a highly efficient wort handling system with minimal evaporation
  • optimized fermentation and maturation steps for cost-effective beer production
  • precision dosing and blending units to meet the “just-in-time” needs of a demanding market, maintain the availability of specific brands and ensure maximum supply chain flexibility

Sterilfoil VHP L

Sterilfoil VHP L is the new tunnel sterilization system for aluminum foil closures, that can be applied to HDPE and PET bottles, as well as sport cap applications. Further benefits include the following:

  • thanks to a very effective H2O2-based treatment that achieves up to a 6 Log reduction in B. atrophaeus, Sterilfoil VHP L is a flexible solution for both ESL and aseptic high and low acid products
  • after a preheating section, a compact chute drives aluminum foils through a pressurized VHP phase for complete internal and external sterilization
  • specially designed rails that change the contact points during sterilization reduce the risk of hidden points among foils
  • two electrical surface heaters prevent H2O2 condensation; this not only optimizes the sterilization process, it also prevents “foil jam,” which could negatively affect production efficiency.

FROM BEER & MALT BEVERAGES TO WINE, CIDER AND FLAVORED ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES - MEET OUR EXPERTS AT DRINKTEC TO DISCUSS YOUR EXACT PROCESSING NEEDS

Brewery advanced

The “Brewery advanced” concept incorporates GEA’s traditional batch-based process innovation for the brewing industry and will enable brewhouses to increase their throughput to up to 14 brews per day. Our on-stand experts will be available to discuss

  • a paradigm shift in wort boiling; instead of boiling for 60 min with an evaporation loss of 4%, we’ll show how wort stripping technologies can reduce the total evaporation to less than 1% without compromising beer quality
  • the ECO-FERM™ for cold block processing; ECO-FERM™ reduces the turnaround time for fermentation vessels and improves accuracy in production planning
  • the ECO-MATRIX™ piping system, our most advanced piping solution for process safety and hygiene
  • the sustainable and waste-free GEA clearamic BeerFiltration, a kieselguhr free beer filtration system with ceramic membranes

CRAFT-STAR™

The CRAFT-STAR™ - a brewhouse for every craft beer - is designed for medium-sized specialty brewhouses with batch sizes of 40 hL (35 US barrels) of hot wort.

  • equipped with two, three or four vessels (mash tun kettle, lauter tun and combined whirlpool/wort kettle or dedicated vessels, depending on the configuration), it’s now possible to produce up to seven brews within 24 hours
  • equipped with process piping, instrumentation and an automatic control system, onsite commissioning takes just a few days
  • preassembled and tested at GEA’s Kitzingen facility in Germany, CRAFT-STAR™ is a compact “plug & play” system
  • with an extract yield of up to 98%, the brewhouse’s lauter tun offers top performance in terms of extract efficiency for special malts.
  • At drinktec 2017, GEA visitors will be able to carefully examine a three vessel CRAFT-STAR™ and learn more about its many special features.

Aseptic Blow Fill System ABF

  • The ABF is an aseptic rotary system combining an aseptic blow moulder with an aseptic filler and capper.
  • Featuring a Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide (VHP) sterilization technology for internal and external surfaces of preforms and caps, it achieves over 6 Log reduction for both High Acid and Low Acid beverages.
  • After the sterilization process, the preforms enter into the Sterile Zone, where the blowing wheel is located, and are blown with sterile air.
  • The sterile zone is enclosed in a microbiological isolator that generates an overpressure of filtrated sterile air avoiding any kind of contact with external non-sterile components and, therefore, any risk of recontamination.
  • The fresh blown sterile bottles are neck handled to the aseptic filling and capping modules without leaving the Sterile Zone.
  • ABF is a cost-effective, energy efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable technology.
  • The ABF on show on GEA booth reaches a production speed of 12,000 b/h on 1 lt bottle.

With the ABF technology, LA and HA aseptic beverages with different shelf lives can be filled on the same system
