With flexibility and end product quality in mind, our machinery can be supplied with various screen types to match a diversified range of products, and is available as gravity fed or inline versions that directly feed into pneumatic conveying lines.

Designed to comply with USDA 3A, NZFSA and EHEDG requirements, GEA’s sanitary and high sanitary sifters are available with both an open and closed design and are easy to operate, inspect and maintain. Benefiting from low power consumption and high efficiency sifting, customized versions can also be supplied for sticky or adhesive products that need to be separated.

Designed for 24/7 operation and available with a cleaning system to keep the screen mesh open during operation, a cost-effective solution is available to meet all size separation requirements. Due to the combination of oscillation and frequency of vibration — as well as stroke length — the sifters offer extremely gentle product handling. This means that the quality of the product is preserved, whilst dust, lumps and unwanted particles are efficiently removed.

Suitable for Multiple Industries

Typical applications within the food industry include cereals, frozen vegetables, instant coffee, milk powder, cheese, nutritional formulas, convenience foods, food ingredients, shellfish, fish, vegetables, poultry, meat, salt and sugar. In the beverage industry, typical applications include beer, juices, spirits and wine. 

GEA’s vibrating sifters also play a key role in the production of pet foods, wherein a high level of sanitary design is required. In addition, our sifters are ideally suited for chemical and pharmaceutical applications, such as processing polymers, excipients and active ingredients.

From sieving brewer’s yeast in breweries, the removal of oversized lumps and particles and the separation of curds and whey in cheese production to dust removal, the coarse cleaning of fluids and draining fluid-containing materials, we offer solutions for a wide range of processes and procedures.

 

Key Features

GEA vibratory sifters are designed for the dry classification of a wide range of powdered bulk materials. The sifter screen vibrates around its central axis in a gyratory motion, promoting the flow of material across the screen and through the mesh apertures. 

 The low power motor has fully adjustable eccentric weights to provide alternate vibration patterns for specific requirements. Multiple screen decks provide either additional screen area or can classify the infeed into separate size fractions. Additional features and options include:

  • stainless steel SS AISI 304 or 316 construction
  • epoxy coated mild steel structural support 
  • sifter body isolated via antivibration mountings 
  • variable screen mesh openings 
  • screening area from 0.25–10.0 m² 
  • one, two or more screen decks 
  • different moving patterns on the screen
  • 100–5000 µm screen apertures 
  • polished internal/external surfaces 
  • tightly clamped deck construction.

Effective Cleaning and Process Optimization

GEA sifters have been designed to enhance powder processing and ensure the quality and consistency of the end product. Large top lids with gas struts enable fast inspection and safe cleaning; and our screen retaining system can be quickly disassembled to ensure rapid removal and replacement, minimizing downtime during product changeover and maintenance.

Low energy consumption and lubrication-free motors help to reduce operating costs during extended production cycles when continuous operation is an important consideration. A common feature of the various sifters for industrial applications is that, unlike the food-grade versions, they are not finished to a sanitary level. They are, however, robust and reliable, offering a cost-effective solution for a wide variety of processes.

Suitable materials for processing include wood pellets, seeds, minerals, cement, fish flour, fertilizer, recycling and household waste, although hermetically sealed enclosures manufactured from food-grade materials are available for customers who require higher levels of sanitary operation. Easy clean features ensure fast and effective washing to prevent the contamination of sensitive products.

Plus, gentle handling results in reduced product damage, lower losses owing to particles breaking away, improved product consistency (size), less waste and minimal reprocessing. Suggested applications include fractionation, control screening, dust and water removal. Tailor-made to suit your requirements and available with an open or closed design, GEA sifters are easy to operate, inspect and maintain, and provide an energy and cost-effective solution for a wide range of high efficiency size separation requirements.

During this time, GEA has acquired a detailed understanding of the challenges related to the production of fish feed pellets and new types of fish feed. GEA supplies proven technology for the sifting of coated as well as uncoated fish feed pellets. And, with proven expertise in the design and manufacture of sanitary equipment, GEA can also supply machinery for the production of fish medication.

GEA supplies a number of sifters that are suitable for the processing of fish feed pellets and animal feed. The sifters have been developed in close co-operation with our customers to ensure that they meet the careful handling needs of fish and pet food.

With a wealth of experience derived from extensive development and testing, our sifting solutions have been proven to cause minimal damage to pet foods, fish feed and both coated and uncoated fish pellets, whilst efficiently removing dust, lumps and unwanted particles.

Key Features

GEA offers sifters that have been specially designed for gentle handling of products and ensure optimal output in terms of quantity and product quality. For ease of cleaning, the screen fastenings are designed to enable quick removal and changeover. This also facilitates efficient changeover of different screen mesh sizes on the same sifter to suit different product types.

Gentle vibration combined with efficient dust removal ensures that the product spends minimal time in contact with the vibrating screen. Products that are prone to sticking are handled by our active ball technology to prevent blinding of the screen and thereby ensure prolonged production cycles. Non-conforming product is gently moved to an overflow where it can be collected for reprocessing.

 

Technical Description

The sifter is a free-swinging vibrating sifter with linear oscillation and is available with one or several screen decks and with various screen types (screen mesh, riddle or wedge wire elements).

Importantly, the use of soft springs in GEA’s free swinging sifters minimizes the effect of vibration on other machinery and the surrounding plant.

Sifters are available both in open and closed design. The screen body is manufactured in Fe360 or SS AISI 304 or AISI 316. Both inner and outer surfaces are also available in various classifications. 

At our in-house testing facilities, we can determine the correct size of screens for the size of the product and will then customize the size of the sifter to suit the customer’s output demand.
