For the pharmaceutical industry, GEA will be showcasing its solutions for oral solid dosage (OSD) processing. “Whether you’re working with batch-based or continuous processes, we offer a wide range of innovative solutions for our customers and partners, highlighting our ongoing support for the current and future pharmaceutical industry,” noted Frans K.A. Maas, Vice President for GEA’s Pharma Solids business.

New continuous direct feeding and blending system

Making its debut at the event, the ConsiGma™ Continuous Direct Blending (CDB) system has been developed with process understanding and scale-up in mind. Able to accommodate two to six feeders and both GEA’s linear and vertical CMT blending technologies — as well as a variety of different top-up systems — the CDB is designed to accelerate formulation optimization and reduce the use of high value APIs. PAT-compatible and offering flow capacities of one to 50 kilograms per hour, the system also supports DoE work and RTD measurements. The data derived from the CDB can be used to support regulatory submissions so that customers can get products to market faster.

High performance tablet coating technology

Further enhancing the user experience and maintaining the continuous theme, the ConsiGma™ Coater will also be on display. This high performance tablet coating technology (for both continuous and batch production) accurately deposits controlled amounts of coating materials on tablets, speeding up production and ensuring a high-quality end product. Designed specifically to be an integral part of the ConsiGma™ continuous tableting lines, the ConsiGma™ coater is able to process small quantities of tablets at very high rates, offering improved heat and mass transfer.

Optimized rotary tablet press offers outputs of more than 367,200 tablets per hour

Compression will, of course, be a highlight. And, since its launch, GEA’s MODUL™ Q rotary tablet press has been setting new standards in efficiency, productivity and reliability. “The MODUL™ Q features an updated version of GEA’s Exchangeable Compression Module (ECM), which is even more convenient to use and offers higher levels of containment performance,” comments Phil Gabb, Head of Solid Dosage Sales Support at GEA. The press also incorporates an Exchangeable Die Disc. With a bigger pitch diameter and the use of A-type tooling, the MODUL™ Q can accommodate 51 punch stations and produce more than 367,200 tablets per hour.

Offering single and bilayer tableting, freely adjustable dwell time control at pre- and main compression and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) monitoring, this compact and competitively priced model also benefits from the new MULTI-CONTROL 5 system and an aesthetically pleasing housing.

Entire lifecycle support for plant and equipment

Excellent equipment and plant is one thing, the right service is another. With several new service options available from the “GEA Service – For your continued success” concept, GEA supports customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their installed systems and components: from project engineering, installation, and commissioning to maintaining and improving the performance of the customer’s plant and equipment.
